Hilary Devey from Dragon’s Den has now joined NABO Networking on some of Jonathan Jay’s events to help business owners grow their businesses
Although I was running the meeting it hadn’t really struck me until afterwards the fact that you had time to do up to four (yes FOUR!) 1-1s in the two hours of the meeting, plus the space and time at our lovely venue to carry this on afterwards in the lounge area if you wish. One of the 1-1s we select so you don’t just network with people you know. One comment I got was the person we’d matched a visitor up with would never have selected that particular individual but got some really useful information from them. Shifted their perception of networking I guess. Most Networking groups I know encourage members to do 1-1s after the meeting but once back in the office with the phone ringing these are often forgotten.

I was really impressed with the meeting. I don't know if it was my new attitude (!) or just naturally a great atmosphere, but the room was buzzing, and I certainly made some good contacts.
I hope the evening was a success for you in terms of numbers / sign ups etc. Simply put, it was business-like but not stuffy, friendly but not "cosy", and extremely well run. If the rest of your new groups can be this good, it certainly bodes well. Needless to say, I filled in my application form promptly!

I went to the first NABO group without really knowing what to expect from it. I found it very lively and filled with interesting features, such as more opportunities to meet people on a 1-to-1 basis as well as network with everyone PLUS a training opportunity WITHIN the meeting. Not to miss is also the fact that members may, should they want to, present an issue in their business they would like to brainstorm for ideas. I found out that NABO is very focused on helping business owners not only to network but also build their business further. NABO is a friendly and welcoming event that I have recommended to other people I know in order to expand their business. I decided to join NABO then and there - and now, six weeks after I joined, I still think was a very good decision. I enjoy going to the meeting and meeting everyone there.

Were running a free training event for Managers we're looking for referrals from SMEs and small family businesses. We will have some paid training at special rates in the New year for attendees.
We are also giving out free books on management training to go alongside this free event. Think of people like DHWJoinery, Carmaster of Harrogate (although I know these two good people already)
Looking for visitors from other Yorkshire towns and anyone who wants to run their own NABO Networking group.
We have groups in Wetherby, Ilkley and Harrogate and Leeds We are also looking to recruit Group directors in other locations.

NABO Networking is the new networking organisation run by the Nationwide Alliance of Business Owners (NABO). We now have 100 Group directors across the country and many new groups will be launched throughout 2012.
