Level 2 Food Safety Award

Formerly called the Basic or Foundation course this is designed for anyone who handles open unwrapped food. Typical job title would include Chef, Cook, Catering Assistant, Waiter/Waitress, Food Operative Care Assistant, Childcare Assistant etc.


This is delivered as a one day course and we usually run one “open” course per month in the Harrogate area. We are able to deliver this on your premises for a minimum of 6 staff, with extra discounts for 8 or more candidates.


There is a 30 question multiple choice exam at the end of the course. Other languages are available from the CIEH but we need plenty of notice and there is a minimum order of 5 exam papers.





Level 3 Food Safety Award (Supervisory)

Formerly called Intermetiate Food Hygiene course this is aimed at supervisors and owners of small businesses.

It used to be a three day course but it is possible to run the Highfield version in two days with a distance learning module to make up the remaining guided learning hours. Exam is by a 2 hour multiple choice exam.


We usually run this course 2 or 3 times a year and usually have a waiting list. Once there are enough people we can then schedule and run the course. If you have a minimum of 4 people we can run a course specifically for you.








Level 4 Food Safety Award (Management)

NB Catering and Manufacturing only


Formerly called the Advanced food hygiene course, this is aimed at managers and owners of larger operations. There is no Retail option at this level.


The course differs on assessment. HighfieldABC has a written exam together with a multiple choice option. The CIEH version has a written exam together with a project. You can see this on the CIEH website.

For some reason there is less demand for this course and we tend to only run it about once a year. The next one will be a 5 day block course in February. We can run this training as long as we have a minimum of 3 candidates.




Level 2 HACCP (Catering/Manufacturing)

The HABC Level 2 HACCP qualifications provide candidates with the knowledge they need to understand the principles of HACCP, in particular how to identify and control hazards, to monitor controls and what action to take when critical limits are breached. They will also appreciate how their role can affect food safety and how they can contribute to the HACCP system and product safety.


This is a one day course and can be delivered to a minimum of 6 staff on your premises. Please ask for prices and discounts.






Level 3 Award in Effective Auditing and Inspection Skills

The qualification is intended for use by persons who are or who may be involved in practical auditing or inspection of food premises, including internal or 3rd party auditors, enforcement officers and persons responsible for verifying HACCP, with the main emphasis of the qualification being on practical inspection and audit skills in the workplace.


This is a one day course and can be delivered to a minimum of 6 staff on your premises. Please ask for prices and discounts
